Interim Exhibition

Every year 4th year students
at Grays Art school hold an
Interim Exhibition.
This stands as a trial run before
degree show and I think I
speak for everyone when I say
IT HAS COME ROUND TOO FAST.......
We were all rushing about trying to
get everything done on time,
just aswell working under pressure is one
thing I can do.
I have took some examples of my work
to show you all.
Exhibited are some examples of
my current work; Ideas for Triumph
brief and their new bra fitting service.
These are just some initial cut outs
from my sketchbooks which I hung with old
bra straps and measuring tape for
some extra meaning.
The thought of graduating can be quite
a scary thought as theres so much
pressure to impress and produce a
vast body of work.
However, I think everyone is secretly
excited to move onto bigger and better things.

Triumph Brief

The Triumph brief

When searching through my trusted
friend google and some other random blogs,
as you do, looking for some inspiratio
for my new YCN Project.
Our Brief to create
a piece of communication,
which promotes Triumphs new
bra fitting service
I came across some amazing blasts from the past
I wanted you all to see.
amazing.....
My favourite is the "Toosh"
I am using these vintage advertisements
to inspire my design but plan to add
a contemporary edge.

Exhibition

An exhibition was held
to help us fundraise for
our New Blood venture in June 2012
It was just fun to see everyone having
a good time before Christmas comes.
Also, there was a whole array of different
work to see.
Watch out 2012 because we will
be putting on another exhibition.

Check out Sam who also featured
work at exhibition

Check out Richies work
for some inspiration

But most importantly we
just had fun.

Its about Inspiration

Its so easy to get inspired.
all you have to do is look around you.
Sometimes we are so consumed in our lives that we forget to look around us and appreciate what is out there.
It is true, there is something out there for everyone but it is up to us to find that thing that sparks a little something inside us.
This is not about art.
Its about life.
So go, look around you and see what inspires.
Its good for the soul.
Here is some of the things that inspire me.

Giving the past new life

Feetandtea present

I decided I wanted to give my feetandtea label a little present from me........................
I had been trying out some logos for my handmade cards that
I am making for STAG pop up shop and made a few collages literally adding some feet and a few cups of tea here and there.
I always find that when it comes to designing for myself I
don't try as hard as I would if I was designing
a piece for a friend or a competition.
I always want to impress other people with my work
and products but have different standards when it comes to myself.

Its given me alot to think about now that I am about to enter into my last year at Grays:

Will I challenge myself more if I am not just doing
a personal project and doing briefs for companies and competitions?

Here are a few little presents to feetandtea label that i might use on my products in the future.
Would love to know what is your favourite!

Stag Aberdeen Logo

Given the brief of a Stag was definitely an unusual one for me.  Firstly I started brainstorming all sorts of ideas but knew it was important for the Stag to be included in the Logo design. These are a few other ideas I tried out which did not make the cut.

FINAL LOGO

This is the final design that we decided to go with.  The basis of this logo is put together with found scraps which stays true to my style.  This logo does not look over computerised which is important as I think it can easily become too flat and look like every other logo around.  I want to start to a new kind of logo design with my style which has a tactile, artistic quality that differentiates it away from the other logos around, as essentially a logo is still art.

Done using craft maker onto fabric.  Then sewn over the top of the image and photographed on a lightbox.  Those bridesmaid dresses are disgustingly brilliant.

Collage

Im posting some personal work. The work i love doing. Putting pieces tgoether from different sources. It some times take me hours just to put these things together, seeing what goes and what doesent. My Assessments are just over so im having a little break from it all but really im not. Still doing little bits and bob including my true passion collage. I am actually trying to source a little bit of new pieces of fabric, scraps, decoupage this is when i miss The Barras in glasgow there used to be this man he had a stall that was full of old French Newspapers, Badges, sent postcards, buttons. This place wasnt a dream. If i won the lottery i would have bought everything from him. He understood just like me that these things are worth something. Others just used to look at me weirdly because i would scrunch up on the floor and just look through all of these things. He had a story for each thing near enough. I feel lucky to have experienced that.
